Bayes Entrepreneurship Fund announces an investment in Spotta

The Bayes Entrepreneurship Fund is delighted to announce an investment in Spotta. Spotta has developed a proprietary ultra-low power IoT insect pest monitoring technology. Insect pests cost the economy over $500 billion a year by spreading diseases, killing crops and damaging business reputations. Spotta’s technology is supporting businesses and farmers worldwide, to protect against disruption and financial losses.

The platform technology can be applied to pests in a variety of industries such as agriculture and hotels. The company’s first product, Bed Pod, fits easily and discreetly under mattresses in hotel rooms, and provides real-time monitoring and automated alerts, for early intervention against bed bugs. The technology is also being utilised against Red Palm Weevil and upcoming solutions for aphids, thrips and whitefly. Spotta won the Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation award for Pioneering and Sophisticated Innovations earlier this year, demonstrating the importance and versatility of the technology, and it is running promising trials on horticultural crops in South America, showing good resilience to challenging weather conditions.

BEF joins existing investors such as The Yield Lab, Wren Capital and Cambridge Angels to support Spotta with further expansion into large agricultural markets.

Helen Reynolds, MD and Investment Director of the Bayes Entrepreneurship Fund: “We are very excited to have completed an investment into Spotta. The platform technology is extremely versatile, capable of detecting a range of destructive pests with high reliability and low power requirements. This has the potential to considerably reduce both crop damage and the use of harmful pesticides, giving a positive economic and environmental impact.”

Robert Fryers, Co-Founder and CEO of Spotta: “Simultaneously changing the world for the better AND building a successful business isn't an easy thing to do.  In fact, it's only possible with the right backing so it's always a pleasure to bring in investors like BEF who share our vision for transforming the way the world manages insect pests. We're really looking forward to working with the team at Bayes.”
